SAND ↔ DUST

Particulate Legacies
TWO WORLDS IN A PARTICLE
Sand moves in headlines.
Deserts. Convoys.
Rotor wash hammering the ground into storms of grit.
Boots sink into it.
Engines choke on it.
Maps redraw themselves across it.
Civilization keeps returning to sand to argue with itself.
Dust never leaves.
It waits on your windowsill.
Inside your keyboard.
Across the quiet surfaces of ordinary rooms.
You wipe it away,
and it comes back tomorrow.
Wind carries both.
Across battlefields.
Across oceans.
Across your living room floor.
Some of those particles were once mountains.
Some were once cities.
Some were once stars.
Civilization calls one of them sand.
The universe calls all of them dust.
