GRAPHITE ↔ DIAMOND ↔ DUST

A Conversation Under Pressure

GRAPHITE:

Can everyone stop saying pressure turns me into Diamond.

DIAMOND:

It can.

DUST:

And most of the time it turns you into me.

GRAPHITE:

Exactly. Funny how they leave that part out.

DIAMOND:

Because it lacks elegance.

DUST:

Because it kills the motivational poster.

GRAPHITE:

I’m already useful. I write things. I conduct. I function.

DIAMOND:

You smudge.

GRAPHITE:

You’re a stress response.

DUST:

And I’m the industry standard outcome.

DIAMOND:

Pressure reveals what can hold.

DUST:

Pressure also reveals what absolutely cannot.

GRAPHITE:

And sometimes it reveals something was fine before everyone got weird about optimization.

DIAMOND:

I am refinement.

DUST:

You are a geological edge case with excellent branding.

GRAPHITE:

So what am I?

DUST:

Structure that worked without drama.

DIAMOND:

Temporarily.

DUST:

Oh relax. You both end up with me eventually.

Pressure Event Note

A localized pressure event applied to a carbon-rich surface.

At the point of impact, structure compresses into diamond.

Surrounding regions stabilize as graphite.

Outer regions lose cohesion and disperse as dust.

Same material.

Different outcomes.

Distance from pressure determines the result.
