Ash: gray powder, burnt matter, mineral residue, the soft aftermath of combustion.

ASH is made from what fire could not fully keep. It is pale, gray, blackened, delicate, dirty, sacred, and easily disturbed.

Its color is grief after heat.

Signal Profile

Afterfire. Ruin cooled into residue. Evidence after the event.

ASH broadcasts the silence that follows burning, when drama has left and matter remains in altered form.

Sound Signature

A soft fall.

Powder disturbed by breath. Char collapsing under a footstep. The nearly silent sound of something already burned.

Profile

ASH is the middle member of the Particulate Finalities.

It is not the flame. It is not the object before flame. It is what remains after heat has finished translating matter into loss.

ASH appears after burning, failure, collapse, cremation, ruin, grief, sacrifice, purification, and accident. It can be sacred or filthy. It can mark the forehead or coat the room. It can be gathered, scattered, inhaled, or left.

ASH is the finality of transformation by fire.

It is what remains when the event is over and the body of the event has become powder.

Special Notes

  • ASH is not fire’s victory. It is fire’s paperwork.
  • It is very easy to disturb ASH. This does not make it weak.
  • Some remains are light because the event was heavy.
